The Jenzabar Foundation is a Public Charity

The Jenzabar Foundation is a public charity. This authorization allows The Foundation to raise additional money from the general public and others to expand its outreach and better support the good works of student leaders on college and university campuses as well as and non-profit organizations.

Previously receiving its funding solely from The Jenzabar, Inc.  The Jenzabar Foundation can now partner with other foundations, corporations, and individuals that also recognize the value of student led community service and volunteerism. "The public charity status will open a world of new opportunities for us to raise funds and build new partnerships as we strive to support the next generation of leaders who will change our world for the better," said Robert A. Maginn, Jr., Chairman of the Jenzabar Foundation and CEO and Chairman of Jenzabar, Inc.

Our History

The Jenzabar Foundation has emerged out of a history of corporate giving and a deep sense of community support and philanthropy imparted through the company’s founders and executive management. Jenzabar, Inc. established a grant program in 2006, and issued nearly 250 grants in 2007 to institutions of higher education in support of service-based student activities, and to non-profit organizations involved in education and social welfare. The company has now taken this a step further with the formal establishment of The Jenzabar Foundation.

Our Mission

The mission of The Jenzabar Foundation is to recognize and support the good works and humanitarian efforts of student leaders serving others across the global community. The Foundation seeks to foster a culture of service and to educate and inspire future generations to create a better world.

The Jenzabar Foundation issues grants to institutions of higher education and other charitable organizations with similarly aligned missions, and helps promote the activities of grant recipients within their communities and on a global level. The Jenzabar Foundation is a charitable and educational organization that received its initial funding from Jenzabar, Inc., but is now seeking financial support from the general public. Foundation grants are managed by the Foundation itself or through cooperating educational organizations.

What does The Jenzabar Foundation do?

The Jenzabar Foundation finds and rewards student leadership that is committed to humanitarian efforts
The Foundation gives student groups the opportunity for financial support as they take on humanitarian projects. The Foundation proactively reaches out to colleges and universities to find and fund the student projects that are a match. Also, colleges and universities are encouraged to submit proposals for student projects they deem worthy of The Foundation’s support.

In addition to financially supporting student-led servcice projects, The Jenzabar Foundation raises awareness about the positive impact students can have on the lives of the others, and helps celebrate and promote student leaders who make a difference in the world
The Jenzabar Foundation provides the platforms and the latest technology to showcase the student projects to the world. From Web sites to social networking spaces, video clips, and other means of online communication, the Foundation will raise awareness of its grant recipients and their good works.

The Jenzabar Foundation actively seeks innovative student community service projects that may need additional financial or organizational assistance to become a reality
The leaders of The Jenzabar Foundation can help consult with colleges and universities to help identify student projects that would qualify for and need Foundation support to happen.

The Jenzabar Foundation helps colleges and universities by providing supplemental financial resources for valuable student efforts that enhance the lives of the students and those whom they serve
Many student projects would not move forward without financial backing. The Jenzabar Foundation is proud to be a partner to finance the projects that profoundly change the lives of the students as well as those whom they are helping.

The Jenzabar Foundation recognizes the key role that technology can play in realizing its mission as well as the missions of institutions of higher education and similarly aligned non-profit organizations

The Foundation’s grant-making is not restricted to funding student activities and social welfare initiatives. The Foundation also considers grant proposals that address the needs of higher education institutions and other non-profit entities to adopt new technology.

It is the dream of the founders of The Jenzabar Foundation and Jenzabar, Inc., that their support of humanitarian causes will exponentially create good works and goodwill that will continue for generations.

The recipient of The Jenzabar Foundation’s 2009 Heroic Leadership Award, Fang Zheng, was featured in a Wall Street Journal story titled "Dancing With Fang Zheng." The story about the Tiananmen Square student leader includes quotes from the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for The Jenzabar Foundation, Ling Chai.

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Tiananmen massacre, The Jenzabar Foundation formally honored Fang during The Foundation’s Annual Student Leadership Awards ceremony in May 2009. As Chairman of the Board of Advisors for The Jenzabar Foundation, Ling honored Fang for his heroic leadership in June 1989, when government tanks and soldiers killed and injured thousands of demonstrators. Fang Zheng, one of the many student activists caught in the attack, ultimately lost his legs after trying to protect another student.

Now others are joining us to advance his cause by donating medical help to enable Fang Zheng to "dance again." See the Wall Street Journal story “Dancing With Fang Zheng: The sprinter's legs were crushed by a tank at Tiananmen”
